ED 501 - Teacher Leadership Discovering Ways to Support Collaboration and Instruction - 3 Graduate Credits
This course will focus on different ideas for teacher leaders to strengthen professional practice. Participants will examine the teacher leadership role and study strategies for student and staff growth through collaboration.
This course will assist participants in understanding the different opportunities for teacher leadership in the classroom, school, and district. Participants will discover methods for working with other staff to create a collaborative working environment. This course will review a variety of strategies and techniques that encourage shared leadership. Participants will review their knowledge of curriculum and instruction to establish a foundation for them to assist other teachers. Teacher leaders have a role in student achievement and it is critical to understand how this position can impact learning. The course will explore systems thinking and learning in ways that will elevate professional practice for teacher leaders and instructional coaches. Participants will deepen their knowledge on instructional practices, standards, assessments, and collaboration. Participants will review the research on instructional practices and student achievement. Included will be a review of strategies for inquiry-based learning, Gradual Release of Responsibility, essential questions, differentiation and assessment information. Overall, the course will focus on practical, researched based strategies that enhance the knowledge of teacher leaders in supporting educators.
