EDU 517 Social and Emotional Learning – Essential Skills for Success

This course will focus keys to successful social and emotional learning.  Utilizing research based strategies that have a positive impact on student learning will be shared through online modules and a book study.

For students to thrive in their high-speed and hyper-connected environments, it is imperative for them to learn important competencies that go beyond academic standards.  This course examines Social and Emotional Learning skills needed for students to become self-motivated, productive, life-long learners.  Recent research data, classroom activities, resources, tools, and strategies are provided on topics including mindfulness, executive functions, student agency, resiliency, responsibility, persistence, integrity, empathy, gratitude and other intra-personal and interpersonal skills students need to find success both now and in the future.  This course will use online modules and the resource by Silver and Stafford (2017), Teaching Kids to Thrive: Essential Skills for Success.
